HON’s History
HON started in the winter of 2012 when a group of people experiencing homelessness, students, and activists organized a sleep-out at Baltimore’s City Hall for National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week. The group realized that the work didn’t end with one event, and continued to meet, organize, and create HON!
We have worked on campaigns to stop the closure of encampments, fight back against bills that would criminalize panhandling, create the affordable housing trust fund in coalition with other organizations, require new housing development to include deeply affordable housing units, and empty the shelters during the pandemic.
